by the Director of Public Works either to the building

plan or to the selection of the building site.

Messrs. Hazeland and Gonella are the architects of

the club. No instructions have yet been given to them

in this matter.

You will have noticed, if any precedent for

acceeding to this request should be required, that the

Hong Kong Police Recreation Club has received

assistance from public funds.

I have set out somewhat fully the relevant facts

which, as it appears to me, His Excellency the Governor

will desire to consider in this connection. I shall be

glad to afford any additional information that His

Excellency may require.

I venture to submit with respect that, in view of

the fact that the removal of the existing Club House is

to be consequent upon public improvements and in view of

the other facts herein detailed, the allocation of public

money to this suggested purpose will be justified; and,

on behalf of the Club, I would give to His Excellency an

assurance that the support of the Government in this

undertaking will be received with the gratitude of all

its members.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient servant,

(Sd.) J. R. Wood

President.

The Hon. Mr. W. T. Southorn, C.M.G.,

Colonial Secretary.
